Lisa Alexander, Ph.D.Lisa Alexander, Ph.D.

Lisa Alexander, Ph.D., specializes in psychological evaluations for children and young adults with medical and developmental concerns. She has extensive experience conducting neuropsychological evaluations to determine how medical conditions (e.g., genetic syndromes, cancer/tumors, epilepsy, prematurity, brain injury/concussion, etc.) may impact a child’s functioning in everyday life. Dr. Alexander is an expert in the evaluation of neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism, developmental delay, intellectual disability, ADHD/ADD, and specific learning disorder(s). She is particularly skilled in the assessment of children and young adults who are behaviorally-challenging.

Assessment Philosophy

Dr. Alexander uses a flexible approach designed to assess areas of concern identified by parents and informed by current research. She identifies diagnoses and then gives parents individualized recommendations to promote optimal outcomes for their children. She thoroughly explains results during feedback sessions. This practice empowers parents with the knowledge necessary to be powerful advocates for their children. As such, the benefits of completing an evaluation are enhanced.

Dr. Alexander’s peer-reviewed publications address concerns central to assessment, such as instrument development, psychometrics, and methodology. She strives to fit her research into the broader context of human behavior and clinical practice. Individuals - including psychologists - act in wonderfully curious ways that ought to be captured by the tools used during evaluations. Likewise, psychologists ought to have a clear understanding of how to best integrate measurement information into clinical practice. In this manner, Dr. Alexander uses research to inform her actions and vice versa.
