4-7-8 BREATHING

The 4-7-8 breathing technique is a breathing pattern developed by Dr. Andrew Weil . Watch Dr. Weil explain the 4-7-8 technique and it's benefits (3'18" video length). Practice two times per day, each time 4 breath cycles only.

Prepare for the practice by resting the tip of your tongue against the roof of your mouth, right behind your top front teeth. You’ll need to keep your tongue in place throughout the practice.

The following is one breath cycle.  Silently count as you breathe.  Repeat for 4 breath cycles.

Breathe IN  (through your nose)         1- -2- -3- -4
                    HOLD                                1- -2- -3- -4- -5- -6- -7
Breathe OUT (through your mouth)   1- -2- -3- -4- -5- -6- -7- -8
